Using Water Fed Poles to improve your window cleaning business

Ever wondered if there was a more simple, faster and efficient way to clean mid level windows than by climbing up and down your ladder all day? A water fed pole system allows you to clean multiple floors high, from the safety of the ground.

A water fed pole is a telescopic extension pole made from aluminum or carbon fiber. The poles have a hose running either through the inside of the pole or from the outside that attaches to a brush fixed to the top of the pole at a 90 degree angle. Each brand and model of pole varies but most all share these three main features. The brush is usually fixed at a 90 degree angle to make it easier to fit in deep ledges and work from a greater distance back from the building. Recent models have adjustable angles on the pole which allows for greater flexibility.

Water waste is a common issue with this technique, and living in a drought prone country myself, it is something that has to be dealt with. The most effective way to reduce water usage whilst maintaining a quality clean is to reduce the diameter of the hose. Regular garden hoses require more water to produce the same level of pressure that a 5mm hose can. Not only will a thinner hose use less water, it reduces the weight of the pole.

The correct cleaning method for water fed pole work takes a bit of time to learn, much like learning how to squeegee. It is best to pre-soak the glass in order to make scrubbing easier. Once the glass has been pre-soaked, scrub across the top of the window, down both sides and the bottom edge first, this reduces the chance of missing the corners. Finally scrub the middle of the window and rinse well.

Occasionally the window’s dry with small white spots on them, which means the water quality is to low to create a shiny, spot free finish. Depending on the water quality of your area, you may need a De Ionize water filtration system, or the more expensive reverse osmosis system. These systems attract the impurities from the water, and creates 100% pure water which will dry spotless.
